AROUND THE WORLD IN 40 DAYS
with Robb Murray

(TO STOP MUSIC, PRESS ESC)

Program presented to the
Midwest Adventure Travelers Club, 2007

Robb Murray doesn't like to waste time. In 1990, when he considered going to Japan, the ticket was so expensive that he asked himself, "Why not just go around the whole world?" And so he did -- starting out with only a backpack and a disposable drugstore camera -- and he made the whole circumnavigation for under $12,000 all-inclusive.

He had been inspired by a travel guide spoof called "Let's BLOW Through Europe!" and, instead of taking six months, he took just six weeks.

Any regrets? Only that he hasn't had time to do it all over again the same way! Robb will talk about the preparation that made the trip NOT one big blur, and about his many cherished adventures.
For the hard-bitten fanatics who have to know the itinerary ahead of time, this is the route Robb followed:

from Chicago to
1 Las Vegas
2 Portland, Oregon
3 Honolulu
4 Tokyo
5 Seoul
6 Taipei, Taiwan
7 Hong Kong
8 Canton
9 Bangkok
10 New Delhi
11 Agra
12 Jaipur
13 Kuwait City
14 Cairo
15 Giza
16 London
17 Dublin
18 Berlin (with wall coming down)
19 Copenhagen
20 Windsor
21 Malaga (Spain)
22 Rock of Gibraltar
23 Asila (Morocco)
24 Tangier
25 Cadiz
26 Edinburgh
27 Rio de Janeiro
28 Sao Paulo
29 Miami
30 New York City, and
home to Chicago.

A cassette tape of this one-hour description
was given to Robb's  friends upon his return.

Here's that whole story in streaming audio.
