I pressed my face to the cold window of the night train to Vegas, .this tiny
desert community was drawing to itself pioneers; fortune hunters, grifters, and
entrepreneurs. It was making room for
the flotsam of a nation, and giving gainful employment to those whose education
had been found in pool halls and saloons.
A tiny desert town awaited a hungry hopeful dancer; it was, as it turned
out, a perfect fit.
