In 9th grade, I used to make up little "radio magazines" for
Gary Werff that would star Mr. Bixel in various ridiculous
situations. I came up with many songs for these shows which
Gary never
failed to enjoy. I would give him a tape on a reel as kind
of a mystery and he would pedal off with it on his bike to
hear it at home and then call me later to say what he
thought of it. He would later add his own comic ideas while
at school or walking home.
Mr. Bixel never actually had the full-out clash with our
pal, Vern Rinehart, that the songs depict. The Ballad
was more created in fear that this might happen someday, and
of what fracas that might ensue. A lot, but not all,
of the remarks made in the song were actually uttered, but
not in the heat of battle. Vern used to like to kind
of perturb poor Paul in various ways but of course was never
extremely disrespectful. |
