The purpose of my work is to help you get more out of life, while removing needless pain and confusion, and to do this as rapidly as possible.  I serve as your moral partner in bringing forth both your best and that of the surrounding conditions that influence you.

You may hire me because of a specific situation that concerns you, or because of broader feelings of unfulfillment.   In either case, we apply the same principles and practices for your clarification and betterment, and we do so expeditiously.

My job initially is to interview you thoroughly, so that we understand who you are and what types of space you inhabit.  When we are clear, complete and in agreement about these facts, we prioritize areas for work.  Often an individual will be able to work on several areas at once.  However, we make sure we are not rushing, and that resolutions and rebalances achieved are conclusive and satisfactory.

If you are curious, you can read about one of the many practical techniques we might employ in handling your concerns:

How do I know whether you can help me?

You try me out.  You do this for free.  If you like how we harmonize, we can begin your program.  If you are unsure, you can keep shopping, or go home and think things over in your own way.

What brings people in to see you?

The people who come and talk to me often have some of these traits:

1.  They desire more out of their endeavors and aren’t clearly
on track to get it.

2.  They feel like they’re stuck and can’t break out of the rut.

3.  It seems no one will really hear them out.

4.  Helping professionals they have consulted have too often
wanted them to simply accommodate to not having what
they want.

5.  They don’t want consultations that utilize the sometimes-
pathologizing concept of "therapy", in whatever form.

6.  A process of counseling they have already undergone was
not effective.  Often it was too long-term, and inconclusive.

What do you offer in your consultations?

Some of the tools I employ include:

Use of pictorial guides, such as charts and diagrams (e.g., sociograms)
Thorough history-taking, especially learning history information
Behavioral conditioning
Gestalt encounter
Cognitive reframing
Guided practice and role plays
Visits to client’s office, home, etc.
Acupressure (Callahan Technique)
Brief, written statements or journaling
Audiocassettes and books
Referrals to other professionals

What are your working values in doing coaching or effectiveness training?

Here are some of the ideals and values for which I strongly stand!

1.    RESULTS.
You deserve progress and clear improvement, as rapidly as I can help you achieve these things.  The notion that a person should pay another for simple conversation is repugnant to me.

2.    LEADERSHIP.
You don’t initially have to know exactly what you are trying to do or what you need. I have many questions for you and, often, ideas based on similar prior cases.

3.   SHARED ENERGY.
You shouldn’t have to go through big life changes alone or without being understood.  An ally can lend you immense energy.  And your ally should help you to get other allies, outside of our consultations, that will keep the synergy going.

4.   NEW ADVOCATES.
People don’t try to
climb Mt. Everest or sail a balloon around the world alone. Why would you? You have available to you a flock of supporters in every major area of your endeavors where you want progress.  We bring these to your fan club, if you desire them.

5.   INVOLVEMENT.
My job is not to display a studied indifference about whether or not you are happier for having worked with me. Quite the contrary. Your coach should be on your side, and care about your advances.

6.   SESSION NOTES.
At the very minimum, you will carry away after each consultation a page of my office notes about our discussion.  Otherwise, we forget things.

7.   RESPECTFUL PREPARATION.
Have you ever gone to a session and had the distinct idea that your "helper" didn’t remember what you had said last time? Or that the person didn’t remember the name of the spouse you had spent a full hour discussing?  I prepare every session beforehand.  Not to do so is insulting to the very idea of sincere help.

8.   HOSPITABLE THINK SPACE.
When you talk something out with friends and family, they may have their own plans for you, and can’t hear what you actually need when you speak.

9.    EXCITEMENT.
Moving ahead with life is fun.  Someone paid to help should feel that fun with you.   I do.  Somber overly-formal attitudes don’t help people to change in an enjoyable way.

10.  EDUCATOR'S MENTALITY.
I believe that coaching and effectiveness training is an educational process about oneself.   It is important to use language accurately when we are speaking, and to keep the facts of the situation continually in view.  Life education is the guiding concept of our work.

How are you going to find what I need?  I’m not even sure myself?

Understanding your needs happens both directly and indirectly.  The direct approach involves asking you some questions like these:

What do you need?
What have you tried so far?
What has been left untried?   Why?
What are the influences currently in your surroundings?
What has impeded your progress up to now?
How could I help you the most?
What would you caution me to be careful with about you?

The indirect approach is MY secret.

I’m interested in your living your potential.
Call and let’s talk about it.
